Diecast Hummer

Back in the days of AMC Jeep, the Hummer was built by their General Products division, AM General and sold to the United States government for use during Operating: Desert Storm in the early 1990's. General Motors became the owner of the AM General and the military model was renamed the Hummer H1 and made available for sale to the general public.

These monstrous vehicles were so wide that they could not fit in a drive-through restaurant and often needed more than one parking space. The Hummer H1 got a boost with and endorsement by Arnold Swarzenegger. The H1 was available in three versions; A soft top, a four-door hard top pickup truck and a 4 door wagon, which is the most common for civilian use. With the ability to drive through over 2 feet of water and with 16 inches of ground clearance, they truly are the ultimate in off-road ability. The CTIS, or Central Tire Inflation System keeps the tires inflated without having to get out of the vehicle. Unfortunately new emissions regulations made it unreasonable to continue to produce and civilian versions are no longer available. Because the military has an emissions exemption, they still have orders for more than 50,000 H1's.

The novelty of owning a Hummer H1 just wasn't strong enough for many so General Motors released two smaller versions; The Hummer H2 and H3.

The Hummer H2 is available in a 4 door wagon or a 4 door version with a truck bed, called a Sport Utility Truck, or SUT for short. It shares a platform with the Chevrolet Tahoe and GMC Yukon and is much smaller than the original H1. The Hummer H2 still has incredible off-road capabilities and is often used to convert into a limousine. The most popular Hummer H2 is driven by Horatio Caine in CSI: Miami.

The newest in the Hummer lineup is the Hummer H3, the smallest version to date. Sized more in line with a regular SUV, the H3 was introduced in 2006, it shares it's platform with the Chevrolet Colorado and GMC Canyon. Currently the H3 is the sales leader in the Hummer lineup as it has much more mass appeal than Hummers other versions. Although it still have off-road capabilities, it behaves much more like a regular SUV and has gas mileage that is much more reasonable.
