Diecast Jaguar

Based in the UK, Jaguar dates back to 1922 when Sir William Lyons founded Swallow Sidecar Company.  It wasn't until 1945 that Jaguar Cars was born.  With many ownerships changes throughout it's history, Jaguar is now owned by an Indian based company called Tata Motors.

Prior to World War II, Jaguar cars produced a series of automobiles - the 1.5, 2.5 and 3.5 as they were officially called.  Although designed and manufactured by Jaguar, these cars were equipped with an engine made by Standard Motor Company.  After the war, only the 2.5 and 3.5 was available, but with some modifications made from the original design.

Today we are familiar with the XK lineup within the Jaguar family, but this actually began in 1948 with the introduction of the Jaguar XK 120.  This was a sports car equipped with a V6 engine and stunning lines, but it was only an experiment for Jaguar - a way to pass the time until a different model, the Mark VII Saloon was built.  The XK car proved to be so successful that Jaguar continued to make it and then followed up with further models, the Jaguar XK140, XK150 and the popular E-Type Jaguar.  Many other successful models followed including the S-Type, The Mark VII, Mark X and Mark IX to name just a few.

In 1992 Jaguar amazed the world with the introduction of the Jaguar XJ220.  This was an incredibly fast car, yet luxurious at the same time. The XJ220 was a mid-engine sports car that could be compared with a Ferrari and Lamborghini and for a time, it was the fastest production car, able to reach 217mph.   What made this car different was the use of a turbocharged V6 engine, rather than a large V12 engine, as was more common in exotic cars.    With less than 300 ever built, the XJ220 is sought after will cost about $200,000-$250,000 to have the priviledge to own one of these magnificent cars.

Today's lineup of Jaguar cars consists of the following:

Jaguar XK - 2 door sports car.
Jaguar XJ - A full-size luxury sedan.
Jaguar XF - A sports sedan.
Jaguar X-Type - An entry level sedan or wagon.

A vintage Diecast Jaguar or a newer Diecast Jaguar are a great way to display fine British craftsmanship in your diecast collection.
