The very first Lamborghini automobile produced was the Lamborghini 350GT and then shortly after the 400GT. Both cars were quite successful and provided Lamborghini with enough cash to keep developing and producing high performance sports cars.
From 1966 to 1972, the Lamborghini Miura was in production at Lamborghini. It was a mid-engine car that would compete against the Ford GT40 and the Ferrari 250. It contained a powerful V12 engine with a 5 speed transmission. During it's production run, the Miura cost a whopping $20,000 U.S, in a time when the average car was selling for about $3,000.
In 1974 the Lamborghini LP400 Countach was introduced to the world. This spaceship looking car took the sports car world by storm with it's V12 engine. The first units used the Miura engine, but later displacement was increased from 4 liter to 5 liter. A further update was made - The Lamborghini LP500 was given more power and and an updated look. Even today, a Lamborghini Countach turns heads when it's found on roads throughout the world. The Lamborghini Countach was built all the way up to 1990, when it was replaced by the Lamborghini Diablo.
The Lamborghini Diablo was another mid-engine sports car powered by a V12 engine. Made for 11 years, from 1990 to 2001, the Diablo sold for $240,000. The car was fairly basic inside, containing only a radio, manual windows and manual seat controls. It was clear that this car was meant for one thing - Performance. The Lamborghini Diablo had a 0-60mph time of just over 4 seconds.
As the Diablo was nearing the end of it's life, the Lamborghini Murcielago was developed as it's replacement in 2001. Available in both a two-seat coupe and an open top version called the Murcielago Roadster, base price is a whopping $313,000. The Murcielago contains Lamborghini's signature scissor doors and a 6.2L V12 engine. Several different variations and special editions were made, which added different features and of course, came at a higher cost.
For the Lamborghini shopper on a budget, the company introduced a smaller, less expensive sports car, the Lamborghini Gallardo in 2003. At more than $100,000 less than the bigger Murcielago, the Gallargo does not have the scissor doors or a V12. Despite being the budget version, it still contains a V10 engine and is available in either a 2 door coupe, or a convertible model called the Lamborghi Gallardo Spyder.
Now is your chance to own the ultimate dream car - A Lamborghini. Of course if you don't have a few hundred thousand dollars to shell out, a diecast Lamborghini is a great option.
