Diecast Maserati
Based in Italy, Maserati was founded in 1914 by six brothers who were involved in racing. After the death of some of them, the company continued building racing cars, even one with a 16 cylinder engine. In 1937 the company was sold completely to the Orsi family and the success of Maserati and it's race cars continued.![]() |
After many ownership changes, including being owned my Citroen, De Tomaso, Fiat and Ferrari, Maserati is today once again owned by Fiat.
In 2006 Maserati released a race car, the Maserati Corsa, to private customers who weren't afraid to spend $1.5 million. It's essentially a race car derived from the Maserati MC12 and just 12 were built. The car produces 744hp and is not street legal.
Today's Maserati lineup consists of 2 models with different trim levels which each offer a unique driving experience.
Maserati Quattroporte
The Quattroporte is a luxury 4-door sedan which originally began production in 1963. The current version started production in 2004 and includes a 400hp, 4.2L V8 and a 6 speed automatic or 6 speed paddle-shift transmission.
The design of the Quattroporte is much different than many North American and Japanese cars which try to shorten the front end. The Quattroporte has an unusually long front end and is quite recognizable on roads. The weight distribution between the front and back end of the car is almost 50/50, making this a very nimble car. Unfortunately it's quite rare to see one of these as less than 6000 are made each year. For many years the Quattroport has had little competition, however this will change in 2009 and 2010 when Porsche and Aston Martin each unveil a similar model. Another trim level, the Quattroporte S is available which features a power boost of 30hp
Maserati GranTurismo
Considered a Grand Tourer, the Maserati GranTurismo is a 2+2 coupe which shares some design elements from the Ferrari 599. Available with either a 4.2L or 4.7L V8 engine and a 6 speed automatic or semi-automatic transmission, the Maserati GranTurismo can accelerate from 0-60mph in just 5.2 seconds. The GranTurismo S is a higher performance version that includes 34 more hp and can accelerate from 0-60 in 4.93 seconds.
For diecast collectors who love to collect Italian exotic cars, a diecast Maserati is a perfect fit.
