Diecast Ford Mustang

The Ford Mustang has been manufactured by Ford since 1964 and has become an American icon.  A familiar name within the Chrysler ranks, Lee Iacocca was instruemental in developing the Ford Mustang, long before his days working for Chrysler.

The first generation Ford Mustang was a large,  enjoyed incredible success. It was thought that just 100,000 units would be produced in the first year, but demand required that Ford produce over 1 million Mustangs in just 18 months.

Unfortunately the first generation Mustang was not very fuel efficient and as the oil embargo caused higher gas prices, Ford had to take a new direction with it's next generation of Mustang.  The 1974 to 1978 version was much smaller and more fuel efficient and in turn, was widely accepted by the public, breaking previous sales records.  Now with it's smaller size, it was competing against the likes of Toyota and other import cars that were just gaining popularity.

Yet another revision in 1979 changed the style once again, but this time it appeared that the Mustang had lots it's roots.  Again, fuel economy was in mind when this generation of Mustang went into production.  This model was available in 4, 6 and 8 cylinder models, which produced somewhat modest power, compared with today's standards.  Higher performance models were available in the 1980's, including the Mustang GT 5.0, which was a performance version of the Mustang.    It had some face lifts along the way and eventually was replaced entirely in 1993.

1994 saw the Mustang get a major revision and it was long overdue.  With a standard 3.8L V6 as the base engine all the way up to the powerful 4.6L V8 Mustang GT, this Mustang fit many different segments of the market.

The last and most recent major revision took place in 2005.  The 2005 Mustang is quite similar in style to the first generation Mustang and it has received a warm welcome.  With a 210hp base engine, the new Mustang has plenty of power for most drivers, even in it's base configuration.  If more power is what you need, you might consider the Mustang GT, or  modified version by Shelby Cars, Roush or Saleen.

In early 2009 we will see the latest Ford Mustang, which will be available as a 2010 model.

A piece of American automotive history, a Diecast Ford Mustang is the perfect addition to your collection of diecast cars.
